The goal of the Seattle Milk Fund Circle Family Program is to increase the economic stability of our families and community by awarding grants to low-income students and their families. We provide a childcare grant of up to $1250.00 per quarter/per child and an education grant of $300.00 to each student who meets our eligibility requirements. We also match a membership “circle” with some students for additional support which includes temporary financial assistance for basic needs and encouragement. Recent Seattle Milk Fund graduates include dental hygienists, medical assistants, teachers, nurses (LPN, RN and BSN levels) accountants, and social workers.
Program Eligibility Requirements: Full-time students with a child(ren) under the age of 13 years and with incomes up to 250% of the Federal Poverty Level may apply to the program (see application materials for the current income figures). Students must attend one of these schools: South Seattle Community College, Seattle Central Community College, North Seattle Community College, Shoreline Community College, University of Washington, Renton Technical College or Lake Washington Technical College. Each student creates their own academic plan, and as long as they maintain a 2.5 grade point average each quarter, we fund through the completion of their chosen Bachelor’s degree, Associate degree or certificate program. Parents choose their own licensed childcare provider, and we pay the school and childcare provider directly.
NEW REQUIREMENT as of Fall Quarter 2011: Applicants must be US Citizens or Legal Alien Residents who have applied for residency.
ALSO NEW Fall 2011: We are accepting students of Bellevue College who meet all other eligibility requirements.
Application Process:
We are currently accepting new applications. Please review the application to see if you meet our eligibility requirements before applying. Complete Part 1 online and then print the complete application. Please ask your childcare provider to complete Part 2. Submit all forms and supporting documents together. To protect against liability of identity fraud, any incomplete application packet will be immediately shredded.
At this time forms must be printed and mailed, faxed or scanned and emailed to our office – we cannot accept them through the website.
Please call the office at 206-526-7944 if you have any questions about the process or any particular form. We will notify you about the status of your application within 3 weeks of application.
W-9 for Childcare Providers (*note this is ONLY REQUIRED when Seattle Milk Fund does not already have one on file for this provider.)
Seattle Milk Fund is making a difference. We measure our success by the success of our students, and we applaud the many mothers and fathers who have had the strength and perseverance to finish their college degrees while caring for young children.
